At Cornerstone Dental, located in the heart of beautiful downtown Carleton Place, Dr. Landon Pincombe and his experienced staff will give you reason to smile. Family

We offer a wide range of dental services for the whole family, including cleanings, exams, sport guards, fluoride treatments, and more. At Cornerstone Dental, we’ll work together to give your child a bright smile that will last a lifetime.

Cleanings

Plaque and bacteria form on the teeth even shortly after brushing. Over time, saliva hardens the plaque and turns it into tartar. Tartar cannot be removed with regular brushing and flossing and contains harmful bacteria. Regular cleanings by a professional hygienist help prevent gingivitis and other diseases of the mouth.

Having good oral hygiene also benefits your overall health and can prevent other problems from occurring. Do your smile a favour and book a cleaning today.

Prevention

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Early detection of complications through regular dental examinations will help preserve your teeth. What’s more, routine exams also screen for oral pathologies, such as cancer.

Protecting and preserving your teeth can also include using sport guards and night guards or having a fluoride treatment during a regularly scheduled cleaning.

Fillings

Bacteria left on teeth produce acid that slowly eats through enamel and can cause cavities. To stop the problem from progressing, the bacteria need to be removed and the tooth sealed with a filling to prevent further decay. Fillings also help preserve and restore the remaining tooth structure.

We offer various restorative materials, including durable composite resin (tooth-coloured fillings), to suit your dental needs and preferences.

Root Canals

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the treatment of problems or anomalies in the dental pulp found in the core of the tooth. The pulp is where the nerve and blood vessels reside that allow you to feel sensations, such as hot and cold. One of the most common causes of tooth pain is dead or infected pulp.

Through root canal therapy, the pulp is removed and replaced with a synthetic material. While a root canal takes a bit longer, the procedure does not feel any different than a regular filling. Best of all, it not only offers immediate pain relief but also allows you to keep the tooth, rather than have it pulled. Rest assured, we’ll keep you comfortable – in fact, some patients have even fallen asleep during the treatment!

Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges are an effective way to strengthen or improve the appearance of damaged teeth. A crown helps restore the functional strength of a tooth by covering it with a cap made of porcelain, ceramic, or metal.

Since teeth become more brittle after a root canal (because they are dead), patients often have them crowned. A crown can also improve the shape and shade of a tooth or help repair damage caused by a fracture or previous decay.

Bridges eliminate spaces caused by missing teeth by fitting custom-made replacements to the surrounding teeth or implants. This helps keep your remaining teeth in place, so they don’t drift and create problems with your bite.
Whatever your requirements, we will work together to restore your mouth to its proper function and appearance.

Sedation

While “gentle dental” is something we pride ourselves in at Cornerstone, we realize that a trip to the dentist isn’t something everyone looks forward to. To keep you comfortable and at ease, we offer several sedation options, including prescription relaxants and on-site nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

Don’t hesitate to tell us if you have any concerns about your treatment – Dr. Pincombe is always happy to discuss sedation or treatment modification options with his patients. We want your dental experience to be a positive one.

Extraction and Oral Surgery

Sometimes a tooth is so damaged it cannot be remedied by a root canal, crown, or filling – and it must be extracted. Wisdom teeth can also cause problems either before or after they have emerged, and may need to be removed.

The procedure for extracting a tooth depends on a number of factors, including the state it is in, the anatomy of the area, and the health of the patient. While surgery may sometimes be necessary, it is no cause for concern. As always, your comfort is number one. After the tooth has been removed, we are there to discuss options for putting something in place that will give you back your bite – and keep your other teeth from shifting.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the closest alternative to a natural tooth. An implant consists of a metal post that acts as the “root” for the new replacement. Inserted into the jawbone, which adheres to it over time, the implant becomes a permanent part of your mouth’s bone structure.

If a tooth has been missing for a while – and there is bone loss in the area as a result – an implant is often still possible following bone grafting. The implant is then capped with a crown that looks and feels like a natural tooth. Stable, secure, and functional, dental implants are a preferred option not only because they look and feel natural but also because they allow for regular brushing and flossing. When there are multiple missing teeth, they can also be used to support bridges or secure dentures.

Whatever your needs or circumstances, Dr. Pincombe’s extensive training and experience in bone grafting and implant placement and restoration means that you are in good hands for continuous care – and won’t need to be referred elsewhere for treatment.

Invisalign

Perhaps your teeth are not as straight as you’d like them to be, but you hesitate to be seen wearing bulky braces. Invisalign is a great alternative for straightening teeth, as each set of clear aligners gradually shifts your teeth into perfect place, and protects them at the same time.

Thanks to our digital software, you can even see in advance how radiant your smile will be once the treatment is finished. In the meantime, continue eating the foods you love – the aligners come off easily, so you can brush and floss as usual!

Cosmetic Dentistry

We love smiles and want you to love yours too. That’s why we offer a number of cosmetic services to help restore chipped, stained, and uneven teeth. Even straightforward procedures such as whitening, smoothing surfaces, replacing old fillings, and using cosmetic bonding to repair or fill gaps can have striking results.

Porcelain crowns and veneers are a great way to improve the shade, shape, and even length of your teeth, while Invisalign is a wonderful option for straightening teeth.

Dentures

Dentures are removable prosthetics that replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Full dentures are used when all of the teeth in the upper or lower half of the mouth are missing. Partial dentures are used when some of the teeth are still robust and do not need to be replaced.

Since each case is unique, an initial appointment is necessary to evaluate your specific needs for a full or partial denture. Multiple visits over a period of a few weeks will likely be required to ensure a comfortable fit and that the tissues in your mouth support your custom dentures properly. Most importantly, we’ll give you back your smile!

Dentist

"What I love most about my job is the opportunity to get to know my patients and use my skill set as a dentist to help others. I'm grateful for the strong team environment and dedication of each member of our clinic, because we can better serve our patients together."

Dr. Pincombe was born and raised in Saskatchewan. A natural interest in health sciences led to his graduating with great distinction from the University of Saskatchewan with both a Bachelor of Science in physiology (2003) and a Doctor of Dental Medicine (2007).

During dental school Dr. Pincombe was recognized with several notable awards:
  • The Dr. Kirk Johnston Spirit of Dentistry Memorial Award for enthusiasm, leadership, and humanitarianism
  • The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Dental Student Award
  • The American Academy of Periodontology Student Award
  • The American Association of Oral Biologists Award
  • The Pierre Fauchard Academy Annual Scholarship Award (with his colleague Dr. C. Rabuka) for research on dental-pulp stem cells, which was presented at the Canadian Dental Association conference in 2007
Dr. Pincombe entered private practice in his hometown of Saskatoon prior to moving to Ottawa in 2008 to join the team at Carlingwood Dental. In 2016, the opportunity arose for him to succeed Dr. Cameron Ellis, who was retiring from practice in Carleton Place after more than 30 years. Drawn to the area’s strong sense of community and small-town values, he assumed ownership of the practice in January 2017. Dr. Pincombe has truly enjoyed his experience thus far, and hopes to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to the community and its residents over the years to come.

A desire to provide caring, comprehensive, and high-quality dentistry, and a commitment to lifelong learning has led Dr. Pincombe to pursue further education and advanced training in implant placement and restoration, periodontal surgery, oral surgery, bone grafting, root canal therapy, and Invisalign orthodontics. He is an active member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Ontario Dental Association, the Ottawa Dental Society, and the Canadian Dental Association.

Dr. Pincombe spends his time outside of dentistry enjoying the outdoors with his wife and their four young boys.

“I like being the first step in the process – helping to set our patients on a path that will suit their busy schedules and have them feeling their best.”

Natalia brings years of experience as both a receptionist and a dental assistant to her position at the front desk. After earning a degree in physiotherapy and physical education, she went back to school to become an assistant, graduating from CDI College in 2006. A former professional gymnast who was born and raised in Russia, she immigrated to Canada in 1998 to marry her husband - with whom she has two young sons (and a black lab). She has loved the country lifestyle since moving to Carleton Place in 2015.

Rochelle began assisting Dr. Pincombe in spring 2018 and has enjoyed getting to know her patients ever since. She began her career as a certified dental assistant in 2014, after graduating from Canadore College in North Bay. A resident of Carleton Place since 2022, Rochelle has two young daughters who keep her on her toes. When she isn’t chairside, Rochelle enjoys photography, nature walks, traveling, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

"I am passionate about providing patients with the highest quality of treatment and gentle care. I love to see people happy with their smiles."

Candice came on board as the practice’s second dental assistant in summer 2018. Equipped with nine years of experience when she joined the team, she is proud to live and work in the community where was raised. Candice, her husband, and their young son and daughter share their home in rural Lanark with their two dogs. Her favourite pastimes include travelling, camping, exercising, and play dates with her twin sister and her young kids.

Born and raised in Carleton Place, Louise will celebrate 37 years with the practice in 2024. She worked as a dental assistant for several years before graduating from Algonquin College as a dental hygienist in 1992. A runner who has completed seven marathons - including Boston - she loves the outdoors, traveling, golfing, skiing, dragon boating, enjoying good food and wine, and spending time with her partner, their puppy, and her grown son and daughter.

A member of the team since 2010, Evelyn enjoys educating patients on the importance of oral hygiene and helping them set goals to improve their oral health care. She moved to Carleton Place in 2006 from her hometown of Sudbury after graduating as a dental hygienist from Cambrian College. The proud parents of an avid cheerleader, she and her husband like travelling to their daughter’s many competitions to do some cheering of their own.

"I enjoy getting to know patients on a more personal level and educating them about their oral health. I’m excited to be part of such an experienced and dedicated team."

The newest addition to the Cornerstone team, Justine joined the practice with nine years of experience in general, orthodontic, and pediatric dentistry, including time spent as a dental assistant. She and her husband moved to Ashton in 2019 and welcomed their first child – a baby boy – in 2022. Spending time outdoors with her young family and their dog is at the top of her favourite “to-do” list, along with cooking, traveling, and visiting friends and relatives in her hometown in the Thousand Islands.

Claims are submitted electronically, and patients are often reimbursed within days. We are always happy to help out if you have any questions about insurance coverage or want to predetermine the cost of a proposed treatment.

We do not accept direct payment from insurance companies, so patients are responsible for providing payment in full to our office at the time of treatment. Please note that the conditions of an insurance plan are ultimately agreed to by the patient and the insurance company.

Parking

There is free parking on the streets around the clinic. Some of the streets have a 2-hour parking limit, while other streets have none.
